It is fairly well known that Californians and Priuses (Prii?) go together about as well as macaroni and cheese or peanut butter and jelly. Needless to say, the Toyota Prius has been more than accepted in the most southwesterly state. And to further prove this point, after the first three quarters of the year the Prius has been the best-selling car in the entire state! Toyota has sold a total of 46,380 of these little hybrids over the year. While there are actually four, unique versions of the car, they are all considered to count towards Prius sales. The Prius Liftback (original) Prius C, Prius V, and Prius Plug-In models have helped the name to jump from number four all the way up to number one.
Perhaps these sales increases are due to the state’s steadily outrageous gas prices (reports of $5 per gallon are coming in), or maybe it has become a status symbol for Californians. Either way, nearly 25% of all Prii sold in the states were sold in California! Now we just need to see if we can improve the cars seventh place sales volume across the entire nation.
