With fuel economy quickly becoming one of the main deciding factors for many drivers, it is more and more important for all vehicles to maximize efficiency. Even mid-size SUVs that are normally used for towing, hauling gear, and transporting family or friends need to optimize efficiency. While this segment may not be the first that comes to mind when you think high MPGs, Toyota plans to change that with the 2014 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, just revealed at the LA Auto Show.
This all-new hybrid combines all the versatility and space that comes with a mid-size SUV and adds a powerful electric motor that can reduce emissions and even increase output if needed. The already capable 3.5-Liter V6 engine is supplemented with a high-torque electric motor in Highlander Hybrid models that can reduce emissions while cruising and increase power under load. This SUV has also been upgraded with an electronic AWD system, revised steering feel, and upgraded suspension for an even more engaging ride. All of these upgrades come at no cost to comfort or interior space, with the 2014 Highlander actually offering more cargo space than in previous years.
