The Green Car Journal has released its list of what it considers the “Top 5 Green Cars for 2014,” and the 2014 Toyota Corolla has made the cut. This recognition also earns the Corolla a ‘Green Car Product of Excellence’ distinction.
“The Corolla has been the world’s most popular name plate with over 40 million sold since 1966. The Corolla’s environmental sensitivity has evolved with the market. The new 11th generation of Corolla, and the new LE Eco model in particular, offer increased levels of capability and fuel economy,” said Bob Carter, Senior Vice President for Toyota , in a press release.
What makes the 2014 Corolla so green? For starters, it has incredible fuel efficiency. Even with its redesign, the Corolla keeps the same engine as the previous generation; however, fuel efficiency has been improved through the use of a continuously variable transmission. This boosts the fuel rating by 5 mpg. For even more of a bump, you can opt for the Eco model, which will give you more than 40 mpg on the highway while still producing 140 horsepower.
Out of the five cars on the Top 5 Green Cars for 2014 list, one will ultimately be chosen as the Green Car of the Year. This award will be announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Here at Cumberland Toyota in Cookeville, TN we have our fingers crossed for the Corolla!
