Building on an already excellent vehicle, the 2014 Toyota 4Runner didn’t need to make many changes to the proven mechanics of the off-road oriented SUV. Off-road enthusiasts will be pleased to know that the same, trusty 4.0L V6 that makes 270 hp and 278 lb-ft is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with the option of RWD, part-time 4WD, or full-time 4WD available depending on trim level. This combination has proven to be dependable and plenty powerful for any sort of terrain. RWD models have a locking rear differential while 4WD capable models have a locking center differential for maximum off-road capabilities and each has a true, low-range gearbox. Most of the changes for the new model year are cosmetic and boy do they look good.
Most noticeable is the updated front fascia, with new, slimmer headlights, a hood scoop, side-vent fog light surrounds, a larger grille, and a lower bumper with an integrated skid-plate. Around back, a metallic lower bumper and new LED taillights make for a more modern look while a new seven-spoke wheel design ties it all together.
These modern upgrades continue inside with new gauges, Toyota’s Entune infotainment system, and other great features. Be sure to stop by Cumberland Toyota in Cookeville, TN once the new 2014 4Runner goes on sale later this year.
